Howie Altholtz

Entertainment Law
Chief Marketing Officer
Howie's career spans across law, music and business development. As an attorney, Howie practiced for 10 years as head of Nixon Peabody's Entertainment Law Group.
He was also one of the first ever Law firm Marketing Directors in New England. Howie created the Marketing Department at Peabody & Brown in 1987. He spent 12 years as the Marketing Director, helping grow the firm from 50 lawyers to nearly 200, then into a merger to become Nixon Peabody and over 700 lawyers.
Howie had early exposure to the music industry through his passion for music expressed by his attendance at events like the original Woodstock, the Beatles at Shea Stadium, as well as through his uncle Joel Friedman, who was Founder and President of Warner/Elektra/Atlantic. It was through those experiences and contacts, and his own business and creative networking that Howie was fortunate to ultimately develop relationships with many leaders and captains of the industry including legends like Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic records, among others.
Already a well-known music industry veteran, having spent 10 years in Woodstock, N.Y. as a songwriter, producer and performer (creator of the renowned 70's pop/punk act The Test Tube Babies), Howie has worked with Jimi Hendrix's bass player Noel Redding, Spin Doctors guitarist Erick Schenkman, Corky Laing, drummer for 70's supergroup Mountain, Joan Jett, Paul Geary, drummer for Extreme
(and Godsmack manager), projects with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, among many others.
Howie left Nixon Peabody in 2000, to become in-house counsel at the venture fund running Napster. After a rollercoaster ride working with the Napster founders and later other leading Internet Music companies, Howie spent several years running his own law practice in Cohasset, where he lives. Restless and eager for a challenge, Howie was recruited back into legal marketing, and for several years has been Chief Marketing Officer at Ruberto, Israel and Weiner as well as working with or managing a number of select clients. Howie's creative side projects include performing a half dozen shows every year with four 20 something's from the Berklee School of Music backing him up. Most recently Howie created the highly successful 2009 Beautiful Lawyers Calendar project. |
